The Federal Agency for Water Resources held a meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on regulating the operation of reservoirs of the Volga-Kama cascade.
The meeting was attended by members of the working group, including representatives of the territorial bodies of Rosvodresursy, Rosrybolovstvo, Rosmorrechflot, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, Roshydromet, Rostechnadzor, JSC SO UES, PJSC RusHydro, JSC Tatenergo, and executive authorities of subjects located within the borders of the Volga-The Kama basin.
Olga Manidicheva, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, took part in the video conference meeting on behalf of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The operating modes of the reservoirs of the Volga-Kama cascade were set for the period from May 16 to June 10, 2024.
Currently, the spring flood passing is being released on the Volga-Kama cascade of reservoirs.
As of May 15, the Kuibyshev reservoir is filled to a normal retaining level: in the upper reaches of the hydroelectric complex, its level is 52.93 m BS, at the Upper Uslon hydropost – 53.23 m BS.
This level regime of the reservoir is favorable for spawning.
Due to the cooling to sub-zero temperatures, spawning in 2024 will be stretched over time. According to TatarstanVNIRO, only cold-loving species have spawned on the Kuibyshev reservoir.
For the successful completion of the spawning process, it is necessary to ensure that the reservoir level is maintained at 52.7 - 53.0 m BS.
The proposed mode of operation of the Kuibyshev reservoir hydroelectric complex assumes a gradual lowering of the water level by the beginning of June and further maintaining it at 52.75 m BS.
Taking into account the above, the Ministry supported the modes of operation of hydroelectric reservoirs proposed by Rosvodresursy.
The next meeting of the IWG is scheduled for June 6.
