The modes of operation of the Lower Volga reservoirs were discussed today at a meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group

23 November 2023, Thursday

Today, a regular meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on regulating the modes of operation of reservoirs of the Volga-Kama Cascade was held via video conference.

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Alexander Shadrikov took part in the meeting.

The meeting discussed the issues of establishing the operating modes of the Lower Volga reservoirs for the period from November 26 to December 12.

From November 11 to November 23, with expenditures through the Kuibyshev reservoir hydroelectric unit in the amount of 4,600 cubic meters/s, taking into account the increase in discharge costs of the Upper Volga reservoirs, the level of the Kuibyshev reservoir tended to increase. During the specified period, the level increased by 19 cm from the level of 50.1 m BS to the level of 50.29 m BS.

The Ministry proposed to reduce the discharge costs to raise the reservoir level.

Representatives of Rosmorrechflot, Rosrybolovstvo and the Astrakhan region also spoke at the meeting. They proposed to keep the discharge costs in the previously established volumes for the Volgograd and Zhiguli hydroelectric power plants to ensure the passage of cargo ships, the operation of surface water intakes of Rosrybolovstvo (to provide water to fish breeding plants) and water intakes for economic and drinking purposes of the Astrakhan region.

Taking into account the positive dynamics of the level of the Kuibyshev reservoir and the water needs of the lower Volga, Rosvodresursy decided to save costs through the Zhiguli hydroelectric plant in the amount of 4,600 cubic m/s until the end of the period - 10.12.2023.

According to forecast calculations, the level of the Kuibyshev reservoir will rise to 50.39 m BS by 10.12.2024.

In case of changes in the water management situation, the operating modes of reservoirs will be adjusted.

The established modes of operation of hydroelectric reservoirs will be published on the official website of Rosvodresurs.
