Details of the second stage of the Kazanka river eco-rehabilitation project were discussed at the Ministry of Ecology of Tatarstan

2 August 2023, Wednesday

The Ministry of Ecology held organizational working meetings with representatives of the All-Russian Research Institute of Environmental Protection ("VNII Ecology"). This institute is the executor of the research work of the second stage of the project "Improvement of the ecological state of rivers and reservoirs of the Republic of Tatarstan" on the example of the pilot water project of the Kazanka River.

As part of the discussions, meetings were organized with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Forestry, the Institute of Ecology and Subsoil Use, the State Budgetary Institution "NPO Geocenter of the Republic of Tatarstan", the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Department of the Republic of Tatarstan" for the presentation and joint implementation of the project on the ecological rehabilitation of Kazanka. In addition to working meetings, a trip to the river was carried out and samples were taken at 14 points throughout the Kazanka basin. Let us recall that the Ministry of Ecology is implementing a pilot research project on eco-rehabilitation of water bodies. As part of the first stage, its executor, the Tatarstan Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, carried out geographical research that confirmed the negative impact of diffuse runoff on the river. According to the results of the survey of the catchment area of Kazanka, objects of negative impact (more than 830) were recorded, among them, most of them are objects of accumulation of livestock waste and disposal of solid municipal waste, plowing of land within the boundaries of the coastal protective strip.

According to the results of daily monitoring of Kazanka pollution, it was found that during the spring flood, the content of pollutants that are part of fertilizers for agriculture increases many times.

In 2023 the Ministry is implementing measures to eliminate blockages of trees from the water area of the Kazanka River within the framework of the Free Current project.

The second stage of the project is the analysis of the ecological state of the river, the preparation of analytical materials on the assessment of pollution sources and proposals to reduce diffuse runoff into water bodies. The second stage of the project is being implemented with the participation of leading scientific organizations.
