Federal Water Resources Agency held a regular meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on regulating the modes of operation of reservoirs of the Volga-Kama cascade.
It was attended by members of the working group, including representatives of Rosrybolovstvo, Rosmorrechflot, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, Roshydromet, JSC SO UES, PJSC RusHydro, JSC Tatenergo, and executive authorities of subjects located within the boundaries of the Volga-Kama basin.
Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Alexander Shadrikov and a representative of JSC Tatenergo took part in the meeting on behalf of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The issue of completing a special spring release (fishery shelf) to ensure the fisheries of the Astrakhan region was discussed at the meeting. It was decided to complete the fishery shelf for the Kuibyshev reservoir hydroelectric unit on 15.05.2023 and for the Volgograd hydroelectric unit on 20.05.2023. Discharge costs through the Kuibyshev reservoir hydroelectric unit will gradually decrease from May 16 with an output of 5,000 cubic meters per second. During the period of completion of the fishery shelf, the reservoir level will drop to a level close to 52.0 m BS. Further, some filling is predicted to reach 52.3 – 52.5 m BS.
It should be noted that in 2023, due to the shortage of water resources and the need to flood the Lower Volga, a forced decision was made not to fill the main regulator of the Volga-Kama cascade – the Kuibyshev reservoir by the beginning of the navigation interval – on June 1 to the normal retaining level – 53.0 m BS.
The established modes of operation of hydroelectric reservoirs are published on the official website of Federal Water Resources Agency.
