Today the IX All-Russian open field Olympiad of young geologists opened in Kazan at the premises of the “Solnechny” and “Zarechye” children recreation camps.
Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of Tatarstan, Valery Pak, the Deputy Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources of the Russian Federation and Head of the Federal Subsoil Resources Management Agency, Victor Orlov, the President of the Russian Geological Society, Artem Sidorov, the Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, took part in the opening ceremony.
The Olympiad of young geologists takes place from August 1 till August 10. 40 teams from the Altai territory, Arkhangelsk and Amur regions, Bashkortostan, Buryatia, Voronezh, Irkutsk, Kaliningrad, Kemerovo, Kirov regions, Krasnodar and Krasnoyarsk territories, Lipetsk and Magadan regions, Moscow City, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Omsk, and Orenburg regions, Perm and Primorsk territories, Rostov, Samara, and Sverdlovsk regions, Tatarstan, Tomsk, Tula, Tyumen, and Chelyabinsk regions, Chuvashia, Yaroslavl region as well as from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Tadzhikistan take part in the Olympiad. Two teams represent Tatarstan.
The opening ceremony began with a solemn march of participants of the field Olympiad. Then Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, greeted all the competitors and guests of the Olympiad.
“It’s a high privilege for us to meet such representative delegations from all Russia and CIS countries”, said Rustam Minnikhanov. “I think that geologist is a very useful profession for the countries that you represent. It’s our future”, said the President of the Republic of Tatarstan to the participants. He added that in Tatarstan they have accumulated certain experience in this field. “I sincerely welcome you on the territory of Tatarstan and I wish you success in competitions. May the best win!” concluded the President of the Republic.
Valery Pak greeted all the participants on behalf of the Federal Subsoil Resources Management Agency. He expressed hope for the majority of participants of the Olympiad to continue their education and dedicate their lives to the profession that in his opinion is awesome. “I have been working in the field of geology for more than 30 years now, and I have never regretted my choice, since it’s the basis of Russia’s wealth”, said Valery Pak. Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation expressed hope for the IX All-Russian Open Field Olympiad of Young Geologists to be remembered by its participants for the rest of their lives.
“We were fortunate enough to have gathered in this wonderful republic on this nice summer day. Young delegates of geology of the Republic of Tatarstan have things to learn here and things to be proud of”, emphasized in his turn the president of the Russian Geological Society Viktor Orlov. “You are starting the most interesting profession designed to study the Earth and all the planets of the solar system. It’s a noble mission. That’s why I urge you to study, learn to be kind and friendly and to be the citizen of Russia as a great country rich in raw materials. We are proud that it is geologists who provide for the potency of our country”, he said.
Deputy Director General and Chief Geologist of the Open-Joint Stock Company TATNEFT Rais Khisamov called today’s event remarkable. This year the republic celebrates 70th anniversary of oil deposit development in Tatarstan. He reminded that during this time over 3 billion tons of oil have been recovered.
Later, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and guests of the IX All-Russian Open Field Olympiad of Young Geologists visited the exhibition of achievements of teammates.
Moreover, the contest on arrangement of the open-field dwelling site and safety basics were held today on the territory adjacent to the “Solnechny” camp.
