Tomorrow, on May 21, it will be possible to congratulate the main river of the country in an environmentally friendly way: in support of the national project "Ecology", an action on clearing the banks will be held in Kazan.
It starts at 11:00 and will take place on the favorite Kazan city beach "Nizhny Zarechye" (Proletarskaya Street) with a stunning view of the Kazan Kremlin, at the confluence of the Kazanka River with the Volga. The event will be attended by activists, volunteers, famous athletes, representatives of environmental organizations, musicians, media representatives and concerned citizens. The campaign will end with the awarding of the most active volunteers, who will be given memorable prizes. There will be a food zone, entertainment program locations and master class zones on the site. And the culmination of the informal part will be a concert with the participation of popular bands of the regions.
"The All-Russian campaign "Water of Russia" takes place all over our country and thanks to it our rivers, lakes, ponds become cleaner, our shores are put in order. Tatarstan has a particularly reverent attitude to this action, more and more residents are joining such environmental volunteering. The campaign has become one of the most beloved, because Tatarstan is a multi–water region, 6.4% of the territory of our republic is covered with water, and every Tatar understands that our rivers, our lakes and their purity depend on the ecological activity of everyone. The person who goes out to clean the coastlines, will never litter himself. And we call on all residents of our great country, our Russia, to join the ranks of eco-activists. After all, water bodies depend on us, their cleanliness, and of course, this is what we must pass on to our future generation. Tatarstan took the first place in the "Water of Russia" campaign last year, but this was not the main goal, our main task is to restore order so that it is always clean where we live. We urge everyone to take an active part. Ecology unites!" – Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Alexander Shadrikov invited all Tatarstan citizens to join the action.
Let us remind you that the tradition of celebrating the "Volga Day" originated in 2008 in Nizhny Novgorod, and last year, on May 21, an environmental campaign was held for the first time on the banks of the largest river in Europe in support of the national project "Ecology", the participants of which managed to collect 10 tons of garbage.
The organizers of the action for the second year in a row are the ANO "National Priorities" with the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Russian Federation and the volunteer campaign "Water of Russia".
This time the key events will take place in Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara and Volgograd. A real eco-festival will be held in each of the cities participating in the action: on the Volga embankment, where cleaning will take place in each region, interactive platforms and zones for children and youth will work throughout the day, which will help to learn more about the impact of pollution on the water areas of water bodies, as well as teach the rules of waste sorting. An entertainment program is also provided for the participants of the Volga Day: a photo zone, live music, quizzes and eco-prize draws.
Each participant of the Volga Day campaign can not only clean the banks of his native river and join the strategic initiative of General Cleaning of the country, but also compete for memorable prizes, receiving points for participating in activities. You can get and accumulate points by completing simple tasks, for example, by telling about the campaign on social networks with the hashtags #national project ecology and #dayofvolga2022. Earned points can be exchanged for sticker packs, thermal bottles, waist bags, T-shirts and other memorable eco-friendly attributes with the symbols of the campaign.
"The key objective of the campaign is to draw the attention of residents of Volga cities and all other Russians to the sensitivity of the river ecosystem to human impact, as well as to remind them of the importance of protecting their native nature. Last year, on the Volga Day, we managed to unite more than 2.5 thousand caring residents of the Volga region, in 2022 we expect to attract even more people to participate in the campaign, and in the future – to scale this experience to other rivers of the country," said Sofia Malyavina, CEO of the ANO National Priorities.
"The Volga is the heart of the European part of Russia, its main waterway. Almost a third of the population of the Russian Federation lives along its shores, and the basin covers 39 subjects, starting from the Perm Region in the north and ending with the Astrakhan Region in the south. The significance of the Volga is truly enormous. Not only the health of millions of people directly depends on its well-being, but also the most important sectors of the economy, including agriculture, energy and housing and communal services. That is why it is so important to protect its purity. We want the "Volga Day" to become a truly national holiday, therefore, within the framework of the "Water of Russia" campaign, many clean-ups dedicated to this significant event will be held. The central venues will be Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Kazan and Volgograd. Anyone can join these events of the Campaign, as well as any of the 13 thousand harvests planned for this year," commented Ilya Razbash, director of the Center for the Development of the Water Management Complex of the Russian Federation.
