Regulation of operating modes of reservoirs of the Volga-Kama cascade was discussed via videoconference

18 March 2022, Friday

Today, a meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on regulating the operating modes of the reservoirs of the Volga-Kama Cascade was held via videoconference. The Republic of Tatarstan was represented by the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Alexander Shadrikov.

The meeting, organized by the Federal Agency for Water Resources, was also attended by representatives of JSC Tatenergo, Roshydromet, RAO UES of Russia, PJSC RusHydro, territorial bodies of Rosvodresurs and executive authorities of subjects geographically bordering the reservoirs of the Volga-Kama Cascade.

The meeting discussed the issues of establishing the operating modes of the reservoirs of the Volga-Kama cascade for the period from March 21 to April 10.

It is proposed to establish the regime of the Kuibyshev reservoir with an average discharge rate of 4700 - 4900 cubic meters/s. According to the forecast calculations of Rosvodresurs, the reservoir level in the upper reaches of the hydroelectric complex will rise to the level of 50.4 m BS by April 1 (completion of the winter work stage).

The Minister of Ecology Alexander Shadrikov supported the proposed regimes.

Also at the meeting, preliminary calculations of the operation of the reservoirs of the Volga-Kama cascade during the period of high discharge costs through the Zhiguli and Volgograd hydroelectric power plants for flooding the territories of the Lower Volga were considered.

In these calculations, the regime of the Kuibyshev reservoir is calculated taking into account the need to ensure a high and without sharp fluctuations in the level during the spawning period.

However, the calculations presented are preliminary and will be clarified at the next meeting.

The next meeting of the IWG is scheduled for April 5-7, 2022.
