The Volga-Kama State Nature Biosphere Reserve celebrates today 60 years since its foundation. Today, the Volga-Kama State Natural Biosphere Reserve consists of two isolated areas - Raifsky and Saralinsky. Its total area is 11,377 ha. Protective (buffer) zones have been created around the perimeters of each site to prevent negative impacts on protected ecosystems. The main objectives of the reserve are the conservation of biological and landscape diversity, conduct of scientific research, environmental monitoring and environmental education of the population.
