Gasoline Vapor Recovery System

7 August 2012, Tuesday

Today, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov participated in the presentation of a filling station boasting the system for recovery of light distillate of engine fuel (Kazan, Noksinskiy Spusk). The Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Artem Sidorov reported on ecological orientation of the installed system.
Filling stations are sources of emissions of a number of pollutants, including such toxic and cancerogenic pollutants as benzene, toluene, and ethyl benzene, into open air.
Harmful substances emission takes place during engine oil discharge into tanks, its storage, and during cars filling from fuel tank necks.
Gasoline vapor recovery system, supplied by the German producer – TST Company and by the Russian company ALL Impex 2001, allows to divert gasoline vapors generated during cars filling into underground tanks as well as to recapture and return light hydrocarbon fractions generated during engine fuel discharge out of tankers into reservoirs.
The analysis of results of VARECO system operation showed that concentration of light hydrocarbon fractions became 62 times less. Thus effectiveness of recovery of hydrocarbon vapors emitted through pressure vent valves of tanks made 97.6 %, effectiveness of recovery of hydrocarbon vapors emitted from fuel tank necks made 86.7 %. In total, since first trial system operation (on 25.06.2012) as of 03.08.2012 463 liters of gasoline have been recaptured and recovered.
Equipment of all filling stations of the Republic of Tatarstan with such systems will provide for reduction in pollutants emissions into the atmosphere by 11.6 % from the total amount of emissions in the Republic of Tatarstan and will allow to considerably improve air quality in residential areas of cities and settlements located near filling stations.
